Natural gas loses pressure due to friction as it moves through a pipeline. Therefore, the pressure must be increased to keep it moving at the desired rate. Compressor stations located along a pipeline carry out this task to maintain a steady fuel flow.

Gas collecting/group gathering stations
Gas gathering lines/systems are installed in oil/gas fields for accumulation and transportation of raw natural gas directly from wellheads to gas processing plants. Gas extracted from gas wells is sent to nearby gathering stations by reducing the well pressure at wellheads. Next comes the "cleaning" at gas processing plants. The impurities and various non-methane hydrocarbons & fluids are separated to extract, what is known as "pipeline quality", dry natural gas. A gas processing plant also recovers valuable natural gas liquids such as condensate, natural gasoline and liquefied petroleum gas, as well as other substances like sulfur. Once the processing is over, marketable components are transported via pipelines to areas of high consumer demand.

Booster compressors
CNG Booster Compressor- Natural Gas is compressed at a high pressure (between 200 to 250 bars) to form CNG - a gaseous fuel containing a mixture of hydrocarbons, mainly methane. This is widely used for the mass transportation industry. Compressed Natural Gas is popularly known as the green fuel because of its lead-free characteristics. It remains the biggest alternative source for clean, pollution-free energy, and is available at extremely competitive pricing. CNG fuel utilisation requires pressure in excess of 3000 psi/g. Vehicles converted to CNG usage are fitted with specially constructed high pressure tanks for carrying the fuel.
A key player in the Indian natural gas market, Shiv-Vani has installed a number of booster compressors to ensure uninterrupted and cost-effective CNG distribution. Booster compressors are ideally suited for "daughter" stations.
- It connects mobile cascades to dispensing systems in order to maintain a high pressure for fast filling operations.
