Directional and horizontal drilling techniques are used to explore and exploit subsurface reservoirs when traditional/vertical drilling is difficult or not possible. Since reservoir rocks with hydrocarbon deposits are usually horizontal or sub-horizontal, directional drilling is done to develop non-vertical wells which can pass along a reservoir - tapping a larger volume with a much larger surface area. Directional/controlled
drilling into a formation significantly increases penetration and enables better drainage, thus ensuring enhanced production and quicker recovery. Deemed as a technologically intricate but more efficient production process, the technique is especially profitable when faced with tough geological obstacles, low permeability or low reservoir pressure. Extended-reach directional drilling also enables to reach reservoirs several kilometers away from the actual drilling site, so that hydrocarbons can be extracted even from environmentally sensitive areas or offshore locations close to coast lines.
From oilfield directional
drilling through to horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and
in-seam directional drilling (coal bed methane), Shiv-Vani offers a host of specialised services to meet the most daunting technical requirements. Our tie-up with one of the industry leaders in Russia has further enhanced our service portfolio and delivery excellence. The company offers engineering and technical support for directional and horizontal well drilling, as well as workover services for sick & water-producing wells and side-tracking operations.
Telemetric tools are used with cable and mud communication channels for constant reception of directional data and measurement of natural gamma radiation. We also employ the latest in downhole motors to achieve the required inclination build-up rates. High-quality drill bits and rotary torques are used as well, for smooth mud systems operations and optimal results even at high bottomhole temperatures. Furthermore, the company has in place the latest software for designing wellpaths and modelling complex bottomhole assemblies (BHA) to help define a well's optimal trajectory. Experienced professionals, state-of-the-art technologies and latest tools/equipment enable us to provide quality services and ensure successful accomplishment of each project within the stipulated time-frame.
In collaboration with its industry-leading partner, Shiv-Vani is now operating in Irkutsk, Perm, Ulyanovsk, Saratov, Orenburg and Tumen districts, as well as in Yakutiya, Komi Republic, Western Syberia, Yamal and Stavropol. Our projects in Byelorussia and India (Assam) have also been successfully accomplished. The company's E&P activities across vast and varied geographical locations have helped us acquire valuable experience and extensive exposure in designing and providing technical support to the most complicated horizontal wells and side-tracks. During the last five years, we have successfully drilled more than 300 directional wells (horizontal, lateral, ERD, slim holes and J-bend) and more than 250 side-tracks. The first set of horizontal wells was drilled in Stavropol region and Varandei town (Komi Republic) on the shore of the Arctic Ocean.
